Dr. Walmsley, DDS
Today, over 85 percent of the general public suffers some degree of periodontal (gum) disease. This disease rapidly advances and can become devastating for many people. The most common symptoms of gum disease are bleeding when brushing or eating hard foods; tenderness of the gums, bad breath (halitosis) and loose-feeling teeth.
Traditional disease treatment procedures can be a considerably invasive and a painful experience for many patients. But there’s good new: modern-day advancements now enable patients to benefit from non or minimally invasive treatment choices. Laser Periodontal Therapy is a breakthrough in the treatment of periodontal disease, which takes the most effective treatment modalities and enhances them with the conservative use of a laser.
Periodontal Laser Treatment is a non-surgical procedure of treating gum disease. This is a very effective treatment and it is much more comfortable than traditional periodontal surgeries. During the procedure, the dentist uses laser which generates a tiny beam of concentrated light energy. This energy sterilizes the area, removes diseased tissue only, and facilitates the scaling. The procedure itself is virtually painless and most patients undergo the treatment without any anesthesia at all. Post-op discomfort is typically minimal and short. After the treatment, a soothing balm is applied over the patient’s gums to encourage healing of the treated areas.
Periodontal Laser Treatment procedure can help eliminate infection and heal diseased gum tissue which, if left untreated, can lead to early tooth loss. It also helps to preserve as much of the healthy gum tissue as possible, maintaining the height of the gums around the teeth, and minimizing the discomfort to the patient.
Because of a number of benefits for patients such as a reduced risk of infection,
faster healing and less time spent in the dental chair, Periodontal Laser
Therapy has proven to be an effective and comfortable treatment for periodontal
disease.
