Dr. Walmsley, DDS
Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) disorder refers to a variety of conditions affecting
the jaw and its associated muscles related to chronic facial pain. The TMJ
dysfunction can make speaking, chewing swallowing and facial expressions strained
and uncomfortable. Muscles in the back, neck and shoulders may also be affected,
leading to symptoms ranging from severe headaches to numbness in the hands.
TMJ problems are now more easily and painlessly diagnosed using the Myotronics K7, a state-of-the-art computerized EMG system. It helps exercise facial muscles, release build-up toxins and determine your jaw's optimum relaxed position. Dental restorations are used to precisely rise or lower areas of your bite into a more natural position which helps reduce or eliminate the TMJ related discomforts. In most cases, your jaw can be repositioned without surgery or braces.
If you have any or all of the TMJ symptoms, be sure to discuss any questions
you may have about the treatment plans with a professional dentist.
