Dr. Walmsley, DDS
For people that are dissatisfied with the appearance of their smile and the
color of their teeth there are many teeth-whitening options that can be used
to remove stains and discoloration and brighten and whiten teeth. The term
"teeth whitening" can refer to a number of treatment techniques such as in-office
whitening, laser teeth whitening, at home whitening and whitening strips and
gels.
Supervised bleaching procedures that are done in-office are the safest and most effective treatment options. The teeth whitening procedure provided by professional dentist usually employ hydrogen peroxide, which is applied at the dental office. First, the dentist covers the gums with either a protective gel or a rubber shield. Then, the hydrogen peroxide (bleaching agent) is applied to the teeth. Next, the teeth are exposed to a special light that enhances the bleaching agent. During the teeth whitening procedure your teeth can be whitened 8 - 10 shades within 30 to 60 minutes. Depending on the patient teeth, this procedure can be applied multiple times during a single visit.
Teeth whitening is truly a great way to improve the cosmetic appearance of your teeth and get that dazzling smile you've always wanted.
