Dr. Walmsley, DDS
Endodontics is the study and treatment of diseases of the dental pulp (root canal) and surrounding tissue. The pulp is the soft tissue that is located inside the tooth. It contains nerves, arteries, veins, and lymph tissue. The pulp can become diseased, damaged or inflamed (indicated by constant dull throbbing pain or a severe ache) and this problem requires a dental procedure known as a root canal treatment.
The goal of root canal treatment (endodontic therapy) is to save diseased teeth that have been so badly damaged by decay, fracture or abscess that usual dental procedures can no longer be used. In most cases root canal treatment is a far better dental solution than extraction or replacing missing teeth with implants.
Root canal treatment normally takes two or three visits to complete and
the sophisticated endodontic techniques and new materials have made the procedure
painless and uncomplicated.
