Kingston Diagnodent Glossary

Diagnodent Fluoride toothpastes have made cavities really hard to detect. In fact, cavities hide in places even X rays can't find. Diagnodent technology enables dentists to look inside the grooves of the tooth and detect even the smallest signs of dental decay at the earliest stage.

The dentist uses a laser to scan zones of your teeth with harmless pulses of light. The light is passed via an optical fibre to the area of decay. When any abnormality is detected in the tooth, the fluorescent light of a different wavelength bounces back to the sensor and makes a beeping noise. A numerical read-out is shown on the display of the Diagnodent.

Diagnodent allows dentists to avoid unnecessary exploration of teeth that are suspected to have cavities. Every patient can benefit from the use of Diagnodent because it provides dentists with immediate feedback and allows them to provide minimally invasive treatment which can often be carried out with no drill or needles using air abrasion. Early detection of caries will also mean fewer fillings, faster appointments, and better suitable treatments in the long run.

Diagnodent is truly an excellent preventive care and is also great for children and anxious patients. With Diagnodent you'll be able to retain more of your own natural, healthy teeth.
