Composite is the simplest form of white filing. Decay is removed and composite material that matches the tooth’s color replaces the decayed structure. Composite filings can be used on front or back teeth, so long as the decayed area is not too large. Composite blends with the tooth, looks natural but will not strengthen the tooth or last as long as a porcelain restoration. Over time, it will have to be replaced; its longevity far exceeds what it was just a few years ago. Composite may be chosen over porcelain when cost outweighs durability.
